Obama - Confidence Man

The cover of the March 2 edition of Newsweek boldly titles itself:

The Confidence Game: How Obama can talk us out of a depression

From the wikipedia entry for "Confidence Game":

A confidence trick or confidence game (also known as a bunko, con, flim flam, gaffle, grift, hustle, scam, scheme, or swindle) is an attempt to defraud a person or group by gaining their confidence.

The term con man originated from the longer term confidence man, and a confidence game is a scam. Personally, I would say that is a pretty apt description of Obama's political career so far, but somehow, I doubt that is what the editors of Newsweek meant.
